Launched in 1955, the Duk Ling is one of the last authentic sailing junks in Hong Kong. Licensed to carry up to 40 passengers, it has a kitchen and sleeping quarters for up to nine passengers. Bring your own food and drinks. Board in Central or Tsim Sha Tsui.

Jumbo has junks that hold up to 30 people, and cruisers for a maximum of 40, at reasonable prices. Food is excluded, but catering can be arranged. There's an ice fee if you bring your own drinks. Speedboat available for extra charge. Board at any Central or Tsim Sha Tsui.

For luxury afloat, try the Michelangelo, an 88ft classic pleasure junk which has previously been used by Prince Albert of Monaco, and stars Kevin Costner and Gong Li. Accommodating up to 70 passengers (minimum 30), it's a cut above your usual junk, with an elegant wood-paneled saloon, three bedrooms, large kitchen, a dining area that can seat up to 10 guests, and an office with PC and Internet access. Also has a state-of-the-art sound system and an iPod playlist compiled by top London DJ Alexandra. Catering can be arranged. Available from 10:30am-5pm and 7:30pm-midnight.

Saffron has seven boats available, ranging from a luxurious 65ft cruiser for 50, to a super-fast speedboat that takes 13 people at a time for 40-minute joyrides. In between are a number of more typical junks, if more upmarket than most, of varying sizes available during the day (9am-5pm) and at night (7pm-midnight). Same price for weekdays and weekends, but midweek prices are negotiable. Can arrange catering by Top Deck, or snacks by Shamrock. All boats have powerful engines, which means you'll get to your destination faster. Board at any public pier, but Aberdeen Boat Club or Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club are recommended
